Meet Dr. Russell
Originally from Durham, North Carolina, Dr. Russell attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for both his undergraduate degree and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. While he was in dental school, he was awarded the Hillebrand-Lupton award in oral & maxillofacial surgery and graduated with honors. Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Russell completed his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He then entered active duty service in the United States Air Force and served as the Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery element at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan for three years. While there, he was recognized as both the company grade officer of the quarter and clinician of the quarter. He also served as the director of the craniofacial team and was a member of the Armed Forces Dental Society. He then returned to Ohio and served as the Chief of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. While there, he trained AEGD residents and was recognized as field grade officer for the entire Medical Group.
Dr. Russell takes pride in his ability to relieve patients from pain and discomfort. He focuses on explaining surgical options and expectations to maximize his patients’ experience and ensure that patients feel comfortable in his care. His clinical areas of interest include impacted teeth, bone grafting and reconstruction, dental implants including full arch treatment, and orthoganthic surgery. Dr Russell is an active participant in Footbridge Ministries Veteran’s Day Dental clinics and the Winston-Salem rescue mission. He also is a certified BLS instructor.
Outside of work, Dr. Russell can be found spending time with his wife, Lauren, and their two daughters. He is an avid Tar Heels fan, a former competitive triathlete, and a below average fly fisherman.
